IRVINE, Calif - In the season home opener for the Golden Eagles men's soccer team on Saturday, September 2nd they hosted the visiting Cougars from Cal State San Marcos. 

Starting out in the first half, both the Eagles and Cougars were battling hard for possessions. Forwards Anthony Morales and Jahir Sandoval showed some fancy footwork to try and get past Cougar defenders. That duo combined to have three shots on goal with no luck. By the end of the first half, the score was a draw 0-0 entering the 2nd half. 

Beginning of the second half, more opportunities opened for both teams with phenomenal passing from the Golden Eagles but couldn't capitalize. Entering the 75th minute of the game the score was still tied nil nil but everything was about to change. From the Cougars relentless attacks in the Eagles box, they eventually drew a foul in the 78th minute leading to a goal off of a PK for the Cougars. After this goal, the Cougars never looked back and took the first game of the season over the Golden Eagles.
