IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine men's volleyball team had their first contest against Central State. The Golden Eagles took control of the game and earned their third consecutive sweep over the Marauders with scores 25-14, 25-19, and 25-13.
15 different players came into the game for CUI and all contributed one way or another on the court. Freshman
Ties Cornelissen led the team with eight kills followed by junior
Makua Marumoto with seven.
Slater Fuhrman and
Gage Doble each had four kills from the outside position.
Many Golden Eagles had their debut in the CU Arena starting in the middle with
Clement Osahon Jr. contributing with four kills and
Wolf Beeuwsaert earning three kills and two aces. Graduate student
Chris Morikawa and freshman
Stefan Bilc subbed into the game on the right side and both had three kills with Morikawa earning two aces with tough serves.
Yotam Briger started for the Green and Gold in the setter position and dished out 14 assists.
Makai Lipson and
Nathan Biteau came into the game and had 15 and four assists respectively. The libero jersey was worn by two different players from
Jacob Reilly and
Johnny Anselmo as they combined for eight digs.
The Golden Eagles move to 3-0 in the season and will take on No. 3 Long Beach State on the road on Saturday Jan. 24 with a 7 p.m. start time.
