No. 5 CUI Draws With Conference Foe Chaminade

Unbeaten Women's Soccer Improves to 8-0-2

IRVINE, Calif. – The unbeaten Concordia University Irvine women's soccer squad stretched its unbeaten streak to ten games on the season by earning a 1-1 draw with the visiting Chaminade Silverswords.

CUI has only allowed two goals in its first ten matches and is 8-0-2 overall. Much like the Golden Eagles, the Silverswords also focus on defense and that usually means they are comfortable playing low-scoring games.

Bella Barrett broke the ice in the 32nd minute when she completed a solid sequence by the Green and Gold.  Maddie Lauro switched sides by passing from the right flank to the center where Olivia Ocampo was hanging out. Ocampo deftly poked a great pass ahead to the left side, allowing Barrett to join the ball and unleash a shot before the defense could close the window. It was a beautiful connection and CUI led 1-0 at the half.

Both goalkeepers finished with four saves. Concordia's Riley Urquiza made a leaping stop in the top left corner of the cage to fend off damage early in the second half. Chaminade did find the equalizer in the 54th minute when Clara Slate-Liu found the back of the net and salvaged a point for the Silverswords.

Both CUI and Chaminade are now 4-0-1 in conference play as they look to scoop up points and climb the PacWest standings.

Earlier in the week, the CUI women's soccer team climbed to No. 5 in the US Coaches Poll national rankings to tie the highest mark in the program's DII era.

Concordia hosts Westmont this Thursday, October 24 at 6:30 p.m. That match follows the men's soccer game at 4 p.m. as part of a PacWest doubleheader.

The CUI women's soccer team has not lost a home match now in 14 straight appearances dating back to the second game of the 2023 season.  Incredibly, CUI has shutout opponents in 12 of those 14 home games and is 13-0-1 overall during that span on their home turf.
