IRVINE, Calif. – Tuesday marked three cool milestones for the unbeaten Concordia University Irvine women's soccer squad.
On the same day that CUI was named the PacWest Women?s Soccer Team of the Week, the new national rankings came out and saw the Golden Eagles move up one spot to No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. CUI has only allowed one goal in its first nine matches and is 8-0-1 overall.
That means this year's squad has tied the highest-ever national ranking in program history. Last year, the CUI women's soccer team also rose as high as No. 5 in the
US Coaches Poll DII rankings.
Hailey Havican was also named PacWest Player of the Week. The junior forward was critical to
Concordia's winning effort on Saturday against the defending national champions, as she scored the first goal against No. 15 Point Loma and assisted on the second score. She crossed over a defender before dishing to
Antonella Russo for what would prove to be the difference-maker in an impressive 2-1 road win.
Concordia hosts Chaminade this Saturday, October 19 at 6:30 p.m. That match follows the men's game at 4 p.m. as part of a PacWest doubleheader. Both CUI and Chaminade women's soccer teams are 4-0 in conference play entering this match.
The CUI women's soccer team has won 13 straight home matches dating back to the second game of the 2023 season. Incredibly, CUI has shutout opponents in 12 of those 13 home games.
