IRVINE, Calif. - After securing the No. 2 seed in the upcoming PacWest Conference Tournament with two victories last week, the Concordia University Irvine women's soccer team was named PacWest Team of the Week.
CUI goalkeeper
Christina Sidoti was also named PacWest Defender of the Week after making seven saves and only allowing one goal during the team's two wins. Â
The Golden Eagles defeated Westmont 3-1 last Wednesday behind a pair of goal by
Sarah Venegas and then followed that up with a 3-1 dismantling of Biola on Senior Day this past Saturday.
Looking ahead, CUI is now the third ranked team in the West Region via
Monday's new regional rankings. Seven teams will make the regional bracket - including the three automatic qualifiers that win the conference tournaments from the CCAA, GNAC and the PacWest.
CUI plays No. 3 seed and tournament host Hawaii Hilo this Thursday afternoon in one of the two PacWest semifinal matches. No. 1 seed Point Loma faces No. 4 Biola in the other semifinal. The winners will clash on Saturday in the Conference Championship Game with the automatic bid to regionals on the line.
