CUI Ladies Scoop Up PacWest Awards; Soccer Trio Earns Special Recognition

De Torres Named PacWest Defender of the Year, Sidoti Honored As A Top Newcomer & Gould Voted Coach of the Year

IRVINE, Calif. – After compiling a stellar 10-2-4 record and locking down the No. 2 seed in the upcoming PacWest Conference Tournament, the Concordia University Irvine women's soccer team earned six All-Conference selections and three special awards.

Concordia senior Sloane De Torres earned PacWest Defender of the Year while junior goalkeeper Christina Sidoti shared PacWest Newcomer of the Year honors with Sydney Harpster of Hawaii Hilo.

Chris Gould was also voted PacWest Coach of the Year after guiding CUI to 10 or more wins for the fifth straight season.

CUI was ranked as high as No. 13 in the national IWSOC DII rankings, won seven of its last eight regular season matches, and outscored opponents by an impressive +19 margin.

Sidoti sports a 0.97 Goals Against Average (GAA) entering the postseason and only allowed 15 goals while collecting 66 saves. She posted three individual shutouts and combined for two more with teammate Bella Miseroy.

De Torres proved to be a weapon on set pieces with a team-high four assists to go with one goal. Her main focus was on locking down on the back end and winning possession to help set up her fellow Golden Eagles down field.

Joining De Torres on the First Team All-PacWest list are Concordia teammates Ashley Grubert and Bella Barrett, who were the squad's top two scorers this season.

Grubert Led the entire PacWest with 12 goals and five game-winning goals. Her 12 goals are the most for a CUI female soccer player since 2013 and she ranks No. 22 in NCAA in scoring. The Irvine native also led CUI with four assists & 28 points, went a perfect 3-for-3 on PKs & is tied for 7th all-time with 28 points in one season. This is also the third time she has made an All-PacWest roster after being voted Second Team as a sophomore and Third Team last fall.

Barrett was the 2025 PacWest Player of the Year and tallied five goals with two assists this regular season. The Villa Park, Calif. native was Top 10 in the league in points (12) and snagged two game-winners.

Barrett enters the PacWest Championships ranked eighth all-time in program history with 48 career points and is also second all-time in career game-winning goals (12). The Orange Lutheran High School alum is tied for 10th in the CUI record books with 18 career goals and will move into a tie for ninth if she can net one more score in the postseason.

Fellow senior Antonella Russo joined Sidoti as Second Team All-PacWest picks. Russo supplied four goals and an assist this season, putting steady pressure on the net when given the chance. She has thrived in that role ever since coming to Concordia as a freshman.

Kalli Cho also excelled as a defender and was named Third Team All-PacWest as a sophomore. Cho was a formidable presence on the back end, helping CUI snuff out scoring opportunities every time out on the pitch. She was another big reason why the Golden Eagles racked up five clean sheets – including three in a row in the heart of conference play.

WHAT LIES AHEAD

Concordia plays at Hawaii Hilo this Thursday, Nov. 5 at 4:30 p.m. PT (2:30 p.m. HT)

The Golden Eagles hosted the Vulcans in Irvine back in September and that match ended in a scoreless draw. Sidoti and Lydia Keller both kept clean sheets to preserve a precious point for both in the standings.

The Golden Eagles rose to the occasion in big games, earning a 1-1 draw at then No. 2 Cal Poly Pomona, salvaging a draw at home against Simon Fraser (currently ranked nationally in the Top 25 as well) and also defeating Stanislaus State and tying Cal State San Marcos when both those programs were receiving votes in the IWSOC DII National Poll.

The only team to beat Concordia all season was top-seeded Point Loma and the Golden Eagles could get another crack at the Sea Lions if both teams take care of business on Thursday.

No. 1 seed Point Loma faces No. 4 seed Biola on Thursday in the other semifinal.
