Irvine, Calif. - The Concordia men's water polo team secured its first home win of the season. The Golden Eagles climbed past Mount St. Mary's with a 14-8 victory.
Konstantinos Koulouris hit his seventh multi-goal game. The graduate student led the Golden Eagles to victory with his go-after-it mentality. He tallied four goals, hitting his 25th goal of the season and matching his season-high record. Harry Bentham followed closely with two goals of his own, two assists, and two steals.
Many Concordia players took advantage of scoring opportunities. Luke Addington was able to bounce back from an exclusion and score the second goal of the match for Concordia. Xander Luckett sniped the left corner and captured his second goal of the season. Dawson Brummett snuck past the defense and made an impressive sharp shot from the corner.
The goals wouldn't have been possible without crucial assists from Sam Diamond, Harry Bentham, and Stan De Mey.
Concordia's goalie, Griffin Beth, made it nearly impossible for the opposing team to get a goal. Even a close skip shot at the end of the first, was stopped in the nick of time to make it CUI 3, Mount 2.
In true access-denied fashion, Griffin Beth had a career-high 13 saves over the course of the match. Beth was recently named WWPA Defensive Player of the Week and his performance in the match proved why. The Mount was only allowed eight goals for the thirty shots they made. Only two goals were allowed in each period. Although Mount St. Mary's was able to capitalize on both penalty goals, Concordia maintained a lead throughout the entire match to make up for it.
Goal scoring for each period went as follows: 3- 2, 4-2, 3-2, and 4-2.
The Green and the Gold triumphed over Mount St. Mary's 14-8 to capture its first home win of the season. The men's team will head to Claremont next for the Gary Troyer Tournament, where they will take on Wagner on Friday, Oct. 4.
