IRVINE, Calif. – The CUI women's volleyball team recognized breast cancer awareness month at their game Wednesday with a Dig Pink game. Players, coaches, and officials were able to honor the names of family, friends, or someone they know with a pink rose to place in a vase.
The Golden Eagles put on a show for the fans as they went the distance with five sets against Dominican. The final scores were 25-17, 19-25, 20-25, 25-13, and 15-11. After CUI won the first set comfortably Dominican answered back to win the next two sets but Concordia wasn't done as they went on to win the next two and ultimately the match.
Setter
Kawehi Chang dished out 36 assists and led the Green and Gold with 18 digs.
Delaney Risse reached 10 digs and set a new career-high of 10 assists to her hitters. Risse put up another performance from the back line serving up a team high of four aces.
Celia Dowell was scooping up digs out of the middle back and finished with 15 while
Jadyn Orava had nine. Dowell was another force at the back line as she had three aces.
Caitlin Jarrell and
Delaney Gregg were crushing the ball out of the middle all night long hitting above .350 each. Jarrell had nine kills and five blocks where Gregg had six kills and three blocks. With Jarrell serving her defense came into play and she tallied six digs.
Kayden Croy led CUI with 22 kills and nine digs while
Kennedy Farley had 11 kills with six digs.
Ally Scheidle contributed with seven kills in the sets played.
The Golden Eagles will be on the road the next couple games as they will first take on Azusa Pacific Saturday Nov. 2 with a 1 p.m. start time. Thursday Nov. 7 CUI will head down the freeway and play against Vanguard at 7 p.m. in Costa Mesa, Calif.
