SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - As the Golden Eagles headed to Northern California to play, their first match of the road trip this week was against the Dominican Penguins.
Fall is a bit colder up north, but that didn't stop the Golden Eagles red hot play stop them from their goal this season. Opening up the scoring frenzy,
Hailey Havican took advantage of an open net from the Penguins and scored her seventh goal of the season.
Keeping the pressure on, CUI drew a free kick near the box, and sophomoreÂ
Irandy Erazo lined it perfectly. She took the shot to the upper right-hand of the net and scored the second goal for the Golden Eagles before the half ended. It was the first career goal for Erazo with the Green and Gold.
Two more firsts came for different Golden Eagles after half time. After about 25 minutes of scoreless soccer to start the second half, freshman
Reagan Van Horn had a shot blocked butÂ
Nicole Ihlein capitalized on the carom, making it a 3-0 game and showing why this team is ranked No. 12 in the nation. For Van Horn, it was her first career point and first assist in a Concordia uniform. For Ihlein, it was her first career goal.
For the cherry on top, right after the Penguins scored their first goal of the game, it was quickly negated by a goal not two minutes after by the Golden Eagles
Maddie Lauro, assisted by
Antonella Russo and
Olivia Ocampo, who were hounding the defense the entire game.
The match's final score was 4-1, making it a nightmare game for the Penguins on a Halloween afternoon they will want to forget about.
