Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Jesse Elrod

No. 10 CUI Makes It Six Shutout Wins On The Season

IRVINE, Calif. - As Orange County rival Biola came into town, the Golden Eagles meant all business regarding this game.

Focused and determined to come into this game, the Golden Eagles knew what they had to do in order to win this game. Based on what it looked like on the sideline, Biola had a good game plan, but the Golden Eagles head coach, Chris Gould, had a better one.

CUI's passes kept creeping closer and closer into the box when Sarah Venegas finally found a streaking Hailey Havican within 5 yards, and that was the first strike of the game from CUI, making it 1-0. This is Havican's sixth goal of the year, scoring in six out of the seven competitions for the Golden Eagles.

Coming back from the half, CUI felt a little added pressure from the other Eagles. Even with that pressure, CUI looked completely in control with the impeccable defense coming from the back line. Key players such as Sophia Munoz and Maddie Klasey are the backbone of the Golden Eagles' defense and seem to communicate to all of their teammates that they have their back. To return the favor right to them, the offense quickly made a run back at the Eagles goal, and Sarah Venegas went right through the heart of the defense and scored in the 77th minute to put CUI up 2-0.

After that goal, Biola could no longer muster up the energy to make any more significant runs at CUI, and the Golden Eagles won with a final score of 2-0.

CUI also tied a school record with a 12-game home winning streak over multiple seasons.  The women's soccer team is in the middle of a 12-game unbeaten streak at home as well. That program record stands at 16 consecutive home games without a loss over the course of the 2012 to 2014 seasons.
