LA MIRADA, Calif. – After winning their first conference game Thursday the Concordia University Irvine women's volleyball team were looking to continue the momentum into their game on Saturday against Biola. The Golden Eagles were able to hold the Eagles and win in five set fashion with scores 25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 17-25, and 15-11.
The Golden Eagles took a 2-0 lead early with tough serving from
Jadyn Orava and hitting errors from Biola to take a lead and run with it until the end of the sets. Biola made some adjustments in the third and fourth and was able to tie the score at 2 a-piece forcing a fifth set.
In the fifth set, CUI jumped out to a 6-1 lead with help from Biola attacking errors. The Eagles tried coming back in the end with a couple aces but a service error secured the second conference win for the Golden Eagles.
Sophomore
Kayden Croy led CUI with 19 kills and 11 digs earning her second double-double of the season. The outside also had one ace and two block assists.
Ally Scheidle contributed with eight kills and
Kennedy Farley had five kills.
Middles
Caitlin Jarrell and
Delaney Gregg both notched eight kills and Jarrell had a solid performance defensively with four block assists.
Delaney Risse and
Celia Dowell played in the back row and scooped up 12 and 11 digs respectively.
Kawehi Chang set up the Green and Gold offense and had 43 assists with another double-digit digs of 10.
The Golden Eagles will be on the road for a three game stanza starting with Academy of Art on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 6:30 p.m. followed by Thursday, Oct. 10 at Dominican with a 7 p.m. start time. They will conclude their trip up north against Jessup on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m.
