HILO, Hawaii. - On the last leg of their road trip, the women's basketball team took on the University of Hawaii Hilo Vulcans.
The Golden Eagles had a formidable matchup with the Vulcans on Saturday's competition. Both teams were battling throughout the entire contest. With a total of 10 lead changes and six ties throughout the entire game, this was a classic.
The Vulcans took the first swing opening up a 7-0 run, but the Golden Eagles had an answer for that run and climbed back 15-14 in the middle of the first quarter. Back and forth the teams went at it and ultimately the Vulcans had the halftime advantage against CUI 33-28.
The second half was exactly like the first. No team led by more than five points in the third quarter with three different ties. Key players for the Golden Eagles consisted of
Izzy Navarro with a team high 19 points going 5-5 from the FT line,
Stephanie Lee with 18 points going 3-4 from deep, and
Teagan Thurman coming off the bench with 12 points while grabbing seven rebounds. The Golden Eagles battled until the last seconds but couldn't overcome a late nine point lead by the Vulcans and fell with a score of 76-70.
