CUI Looks To Rebound After Battle With PLNU

Navarro Drops 21 Points in Latest Conference Clash

IRVINE, Calif. – Thursday night's rematch between Concordia University Irvine and Point Loma Nazarene University certainly involved more drama than the first meeting.

Concordia was looking to exact some revenge after falling in the first go round earlier this season.

The Golden Eagles were up for the challenge and it was a tight contest for the majority of the game. Concordia led 33-29 at the break.

But Point Loma rallied and outscored the hosts by 10 in the second half to swipe the win away from CUI.

Freshman Izzy Navarro scored 21 points and Camryn Kiernan added 12 for the Golden Eagles.

One of the differences in the game was the rebounding edge for Point Loma. The Sea Lions collected a whopping 21 offensive rebounds and outrebounded Concordia 49 to 31 overall. PLNU looked to push the pace early and found success with multiple breakaway layups in the first half.

The Golden Eagles did force 13 steals and scored 26 points off Point Loma turnovers. Concordia's bench also outscored Point Loma 20-11.

Teagan Thurman led CUI with seven rebounds and added six points.  Thurman enters Monday's game against Hawai'i Pacific with 994 career points between her time at both Northwest Nazarene and Concordia.

The Golden Eagles will honor their seniors on Monday after their game with the Sharks. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m. for the women's game followed by the senior ceremony and then the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
