NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - In a rare mid-season exhibition game, the Concordia University Irvine women's water polo team defeated the University of Toronto 12-7 at Sage Hill High School.
The tuneup comes less than 48 hours before CUI's home opener which will be held this coming Friday, Feb 23 at 12:15 p.m. against Fresno Pacific University.
Senior and Hawai'i native
Andie Perreira was a force and racked up three goals, while
Abby Mammen added three of her own to help lead the CUI offense. Graduate student
Melinna Galbraith contributed two scores in a supporting role.
Freshman goalie
Jaden Soto made seven saves and fellow first-year goalie
Tea Summers also collected five stops in goal.
In an odd scheduling quirk, this season has seen the Golden Eagles play their first 12 regular season games away from home. This included multiple weekend tournaments over the past few weeks hosted by Long Beach State, UC San Diego and Santa Clara.

The Golden Eagles narrowly lost to Santa Clara, nearly knocking off the Broncos in what was ultimately a 9-8 overtime defeat.
CUI rallied to beat both Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay last Saturday to gain some momentum heading into their highly anticipated home opener.
The Golden Eagles will face the Sunbirds in their regular home pool at Woollett Aquatics Center. Admission is free and the game will be live streamed as well.
