WINTER PARK, Fla. - Facing the No. 2 team in the nation is no easy task.
The Concordia University Irvine men's lacrosse team was up to the challenge on Tuesday, as the Golden Eagles began their three-game road trip in Florida against the Tars (Yes, that is their mascot - and
the Tars have a pretty unique history).
Concordia put Rollins on upset alert by scoring the first two goals of the game and announcing its presence with a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
After playing nearly half the first period to a draw,
Jake Echeverria net his first goal of the year off a pass from
Chad McFadden. McFadden scored about three minutes later to make it 2-0 CUI.
After Rollins got on the board,
Boston Rhees added a score less than 10 seconds before the first quarter horn.
But that fast start seemed to wake up the Tars. Rollins scored three goals in each of the last three periods to claim a 10-5 victory. The home team made its move in the middle periods, outscoring CUI 6-1 during that stretch.
Concordia's
Matt Carresi scored in the third to bring his team-leading total to 12 goals this season. McFadden wound up with two goals to lead the Green and Gold with three total points on the night.
Goalie
Daniel Yang protected the net and was credited with 11 saves.
The Golden Eagles continue their road trip on Thursday night at Palm Beach Atlantic University.
