HAYWARD, Calif. – No. 24 Concordia University Irvine finished its 10-game road trip on Wednesday, finishing off a four-game sweep of Academy of Art with two more victories.
CUI finished the road trip 9-1 and a nine-game winning streak. The Golden Eagles
swept Dominican over the weekend behind back-to-back one-hit shutouts by
Katlin Entrup after splitting a doubleheader with Cal State East Bay.
Game 1: No. 24 CUI 6, ART U 2
PacWest Pitcher of the Week
Katlin Entrup started right where she left off in the circle. The senior tossed five innings and only allowed two hits and one run. She added five more strikeouts to her ledger and leads Concordia pitchers with 73 punch-outs already this month.
Rylie Rohr started the scoring with a RBI single in the second. She would come around to score on a sacrifice bunt by
Shelby Pfeiler to make it 2-0 CUI.
Patience was a virtue in the fifth as
Missy Nemeth and
Michalah Robison both worked a walk with the bases loaded to plate a couple more Concordia runs.
Pfeiler lofted a sac fly in the sixth to plate
Shelli Faulk for a 5-1 lead.
Mary Baccay added a RBI single for some extra insurance before
Megan Casper closed out the final two frames in the circle.
Game 2: No. 24 CUI 9, ART U 3
Cortney Koelmans continued her consistent play in the circle with five shutout innings and improved to 7-1 on the year. She struck out four batters and only allowed three hits.
CUI grabbed the lead before the Urban Knights even had a chance to bat.Â
Michalah Robison and
Mary Baccay executed a double steal to plate the first run. A few minutes later, freshman
Audrey Robles singled in another to make it 2-0.
Jessica Im and Robison each provided RBI singles in the top of the second to extend the CUI lead to 4-0.
CUI doubled its lead in the top of the sixth. Back-to-back doubles by
Mary Baccay and
Missy Nemeth made it 5-0. Then
Kaia Nisby smacked a bases-clearing double to push the lead to 8-0 and put the game firmly out of reach.
Freshman pitcher
Kira Morris made her Concordia debut in the sixth inning and recorded her first career strikeout. She helped earn the final six outs to cement the sweep with a 9-3 victory.
Baccay finished the game with three runs scored and Nemeth finished with 2 RBI. She added a RBI single in the top of the seventh after the Knights avoided the mercy rule with a run in the bottom of the sixth.
CUI improved to 8-0 in league play after sweeping the season series with both Academy of Art and Dominican. CUI is firmly entrenched in first place atop the PacWest leaderboard.

After hitting one ball over the fence on Tuesday against ART U,
Rylie Rohr closed the road trip with 39 career homers. That puts her just three away from tying and four from breaking the school record for most career home runs (42) shared by Amanda Fama and Amy Eilefson.
CUI will get a few days to refresh before returning to action on Friday, March 8 at home against Biola. That conference doubleheader begins at 3 p.m. back on campus.
