Game Recap: Women's Water Polo | | Channa Hart

Rising Tides & Comebacks

LA MIRADA, Calif. - Coming off the home opener, the Concordia women's water polo team went face to face with the Biola Eagles for a competitive mid-week match. Biola was a worthy and challenging opponent, but Concordia rose to the occasion and proved just what the Golden Eagles were capable of.

The lead scorers for Concordia were Andie Perreira and Abby Mammen tied with four goals each. In addition, Melinna Galbraith added two goals of her own to Concordia's board.

Tess Henke was a force to reckon with on the sprint and went 2-0 for the match. While Tamsyn Evezard and Tessa Tavaglione kept the offense alive with crucial assists throughout the match. Defensively, Samantha Rainey stepped up and played goalie in the 2nd period for the Golden Eagles. In a moment of recognition, the former Biola undergrad had a reunion with teammates and received her conference ring from the previous year. Truly an amazing accomplishment for Rainey!

For most of the match, the Biola Eagles outscored the Golden Eagles and had a firm grasp on the lead. By the half, the score was CUI 4 - Biola 9. But, everybody loves a comeback.

Within the fourth period, the Green and the Gold made an impressive leap to 12-13 to close the gap! Both teams were doing everything in their power to capture the win. It wasn't until the last few seconds of the game that the Biola Eagles saved a crucial CUI shot and scored on a two-on-one breakaway to ice the game.

The final score of the match was CUI 13 – BIOLA 15.

Next up for the Golden Eagles is the two-day Convergence Tournament starting on March 1st at the Allred Aquatic Center. The Golden Eagles will take on Iona and Fresno Pacific at 12:45 p.m. and 4:30 p.m on Friday afternoon.
