SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Closing out the women's tennis trip, CUI went head-to-head against Academy of Art University at the home of the Urban Knights.
From the start of the doubles matches, the Golden Eagles knew they were in for a good competition against the Urban Knights. In the doubles matches, ART U posted two wins in a row by narrow 6-4 margins after freshmen
Bryn Johnson and
Emilie Lugon-Moulin won at the No. 3 spot for CUI.Â
Up next was singles play. The freshmen Lugon-Moulin and Johnson each emerged victorious at the No. 3 and No. 5 singles spots respetively to get CUI back in the match.
Alicia Da Re also connected for a dominant 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles to make it a 3-3 contest.
It came down to No. 1 singles and No. 4 singles.
Sophie Rachor and
Jessica Bear gave it their all during the matches and both ladies went to three sets with their opponents. However, ART U pulled it out both times.
Ultimately the red-hot Urban Knights held the slight advantage over the Golden Eagles when all was said and done with a final score of 4-3. The Urban Knights handed CUI only their second loss of the season. That doubles point proved to be crucial in deciding the match.
