Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 REDLANDS, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine men's and women's tennis team kicked off the 2024 season on the road against Redlands this past weekend. The women's team earned their first win of the spring for new coach Ellie Johnson with a score of 5-2 while the men fell just short by a close 4-3 margin.
 
CUI 5, Redlands 2

CUI earned their first point of the day in the doubles competition with two duos Alicia Da Re/Jessica Bear and Bryn Johnson/Emilie Lugon-Moulin winning with 6-3 and 6-2 scores.

Sophomore Sophie Rachor was in the No. 1 slot was the first singles match to finish and came out with the only two set victory in the singles competition. Rachor pulled out a close 7-6 in the first and dominated in the second 6-2.

The last three matches of the day secured the win for the Golden Eagles. Lugon-Moulin and Da Re won the first set of their match-up against the Bulldogs but fell in the second forcing a third. Both Switzerland natives came out with the match win with a dominant performance. Johnson at No. 5 slot outlasted her opponent and came back fighting the last two sets to win 7-5 and 6-4.

Redlands 4 CUI 3
 
Mattis Le Montagner and Max Renz were partners in the doubles competition and earned a 6-3 win but Redlands took two of the other wins in doubles.

In the singles competition Le Montagner earned the first point for the Green and Gold in the No. 2 position with scores 6-3 and 6-1. Mario Aleksic dominated his opponent with 6-2 scores in both sets and Spencer Cinco tied the game with a 6-4 and 6-1 win over the Bulldogs. Adam Kartzinel put up a tough fight in the No. 4 slot as he won the first but lost the next two sets.

The women's tennis team has their home opener Friday Feb. 9 against Santa Clara with a 1 p.m. start time. Men's tennis will host their home opener the following day Saturday Feb. 10 against Cal Tech slated for 11:30 a.m.
