CUI Opens Up Road Trip With a Win

Honolulu, HAWAII. - Starting out on the first leg of their road trip, the women's basketball team took on the Chaminade University Silverswords.

From the tip off, the Golden Eagles applied pressure for the first seven minutes of the game. Starting out the game on a 18-4 run, CUI looked dominant on both sides of the court. To end the first quarter, the Silverswords gave some resistance towards the Golden Eagles and after 10 minutes of play the score was 23-16.

The second quarter was a much more competitive quarter and the Silverswords tested the Golden Eagles. Defense was the name of the game and CUI put together some defensive stops to end the quarter making the score 33-28 going into the half.

Coming back after the half, starting center Savannah Felix-Amoroso really made the third quarter her quarter. Grabbing rebound after rebound and being extra aggressive on the offensive end to get her on the free throw line. Felix-Amoroso and the rest of the Golden Eagles capitalized off of great team play ending the quarter up by 10 points entering the fourth.

True freshman PG Izzy Navarro and Savannah Felix-Amoroso opened the fourth quarter with a 6-0 to help the Golden Eagles go up by more than 16 points. It was smooth sailing on the island of Oahu after that run and CUI won their first of the three game road-trip against the Silverswords with a final score of 65-57.

Key Golden Eagles include Savannah Felix-Amoroso who finished the game with a double-double scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Camryn Kiernan finished the game with 10 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Teagan Thurman who nearly finished with a double double had 10 points, eight rebounds, and two assists with one block. Lastly but certainly not least is Izzy Navarro finished the game with nine points, five rebounds, seven assists with an impressive zero turnovers on the night.
