Down To The Wire In Hawaii

HONOLULU, Hawaii. - In the second game of their island road trip, CUI took on the Hawaii Pacific University Sharks.

The Golden Eagles did not miss a beat coming from their last game showing just how dominant they can be when all cylinders are running. CUI came out red hot hitting four threes and holding the Sharks to 11 first quarter points making the game 23-11 after one quarter of play

The second quarter is when the Sharks bite back, going on a 15-3 run to make it a tie game with five left to go until the half. The Golden Eagles knew they were in for a battle now. Back and forth the two teams went head-to-head with each other and ultimately it was the Sharks who led at the half with a score of 35-32.

Coming out of the half, the Golden Eagles knew they were in a dog fight with the Sharks. Neither team during the entire third quarter led by more than three points due to both teams giving it their all on the defensive side. By the end of the third quarter CUI led by two with a score of 46-44.

The fourth quarter started and the tenacious defense had not left. The Golden Eagles opened up the fourth with two fastbreak buckets from Izzy Navarro to put them up by six points. The Sharks answered right back with an offensive run themselves to make them go up by four points. A minute and a half left to go Stephanie Lee hit a clutch three to make it a tie game at 60 a piece. The Sharks answered back with another clutch three to then go up by three points and ultimately take the game with a final score of 66-62.

Key CUI players include Stephanie Lee who scored 14 points hitting four threes, two rebounds, and one steal. Izzy Navarro finished the game with 13 points, three assists, and three steals. Lastly but certainly not least Savannah Felix-Amoroso who finished the game with seven points, seven rebounds, one steal, and one assist.
