HONOLULU, Hawai'i - Concordia's
Tim Adetukasi scored 12 points and
Jackson Tucker added 11 in a low-scoring affair with the Hawaii Pacific Sharks.
The Golden Eagles competed through a tough first half where their shots were just not falling. HPU held CUI to only 17 points before the halftime buzzer and led 40-17 at the break.
CUI rallied and outscored the host team 31-26 in the second half, but the deficit was just too much to overcome.
"Frustrating first half for our guys," admitted CUI head coach
Ken Ammann. "They were literally not guarding most of us out there and got us second-guessing every shot. One of the reasons we shot the lowest shooting percentage I can remember. We did a better job and competed well in the second half."
HPU improved to 14-7 overall and 9-4 in PacWest play while CUI dropped to 10-11 overall and 7-8 in league action.
Concordia is one of seven teams vying for six spots in the upcoming PacWest Conference Championships. The top two seeds receive a first round bye in the annual tournament, while the remaining four seeds play in the first round of the brackets. This year's tourney will be hosted by Point Loma down in San Diego.
