IRVINE, Calif. – With the rain passing by in the morning the Concordia University Irvine baseball team still got in their doubleheader on Saturday against Fresno Pacific. The Sunbirds took both games and went 3-1 on the non-conference series.
Game 1: CUI 1, FPU 4
Freshman
Isaiah Walz went 2-for-3 on the day while hitting his first home run to right field and ultimately being the only run for CUI. Five other Golden Eagles contributed with a hit throughout the game.
Senior
Riley O'Sullivan started on the mound for the Green and Gold and went four innings striking out five while giving up six hits and two earned runs.
Cameron Sims came in for 1.2 innings and threw two K's and did not give up a hit.
Scott Wood came in and pitched his longest outing at CUI with 2.1 innings with three strikeouts while
Elliot Pigati pitched the last inning.
Game 2: CUI 2, FPU 12
FPU scored in the first three innings to take an early 8-0 lead and the Golden Eagles came back to score two in the third but that didn't stop the Sunbirds as they scored another four to take a 12-2 win.
Six different pitchers came into the game for the Golden Eagles with
Brett Finnel starting the game and struck out two.
Wyatt Madison led CUI with four strikeouts in his 1.2 innings pitched.
Jamison King,
Ryan O'Toole,
Luka Brancato, and
Nicholas Fay went in from the pen.
13 different players came into the game and each came to the plate at least once. Second baseman
Landry Spitler went 2-for-3 with a double down left field line and a single up the middle.
Michael Dixon and
Luke Glascoe continue to impress at the plate both recording an RBI and being the two runs scored.
CUI moves to 10-12 on the season and look ahead to play at home against Azusa Pacific Wednesday Mar. 27 and Thursday Mar. 28 with doubleheaders starting at 2 p.m. and around 5:30 p.m.
