CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Concordia women's water polo team faced off against three teams thi paast weekend. One being in San Diego and the other two at Claremont. The Golden Eagles wrapped up the weekend 1-2.
To make up for a missed game, Concordia faced off against No. 21 San Diego State on Friday afternoon. The Golden Eagles started off strong with three big goals in the first period from Sofia Smith, Tamsyn Evezard, and Andie Perreira. The Aztecs offense found its way through Concordia's defense to bump to a big 6-3 lead by the end of the first.
Tamsyn Evezard and Andie Perreira shouldered the rest of the goals as each period passed. Concordia's defense made it hard for the Aztecs within the last two periods, keeping the score relatively close CUI 8 – SDSU 12.
On Saturday, the Golden Eagles rose to the occasion in Claremont. Pomona-Pitzer had a good lead on the Concordia within the first half with a score of 2-10. Once haalftime was over, the Green and the Gold found their groove and came out of the gates with high scoring performances. Tamsyn Evezard, Andie Perreira, and Tess Henke added many goals to Concordia's board in order to close the gap.
Concordia's defense did an impressive job keeping the Sagehens from scoring any more goals for the remainder of the game. Making the final score CUI 10 – P/P 11.
The first win of the weekend and the final match of the day was against La Verne. The Golden Eagles did not hesitate against the Leopards. CUI scored a whopping 16 goals to ULV's 6 goals, making it a 10-point difference. In fact, CUI outscored La Verne in every period.
The Golden Eagles pounced on every opportunity, which allowed eight different players to score against the Leopards. These players included: Abby Mammen (5), Tamsyn Evezard (2), Andie Perreira (2), Lily Ensley (2), Tess Henke (2), Allie Gaetano, Allyson Corbett, and Sofia Smith.
