IRVINE, Calif. – On the eve of their first playoff matches, six Concordia University Irvine tennis players were honored Wednesday for their outstanding seasons as members of the All-PacWest Conference teams.
Four CUI women and a pair of men earned the accolades this April. The awards for the league were announced at the annual banquet in Surprise, Arizona.
Sophomore
Sophie Rachor and freshman
Emilie Lugon-Moulin were both voted First Team All-Conference in singles. Their doubles partners were recognized as well, as Rachor and
Tiffany Carrillo made Second Team in doubles and Lugon-Moulin and fellow freshman
Bryn Johnson were named Third Team together.
On the men's side, newcomer
Mattis Le Montagner made Second Team in singles.
Mario Aleksic joined him as a top singles player and was named Third Team All-PacWest.
Rachor went 15-4 and twice reeled off five game winning streaks at the No. 1 singles spot. She has remained nationally-ranked in singles for the majority of the season and enters this week in Arizona in the top 40 among ITA NCAA DII players.
Lugon-Moulin went 16-3 in singles play, mostly at No. 2 after starting the year at No. 3. In addition, 14 of her 16 regular season wins were in just two sets and she won seven straight matches down the stretch. The freshman was named PacWest Player of the Week twice in April, including just this past Monday.
The duo of Rachor and
Tiffany Carrillo ranked as high as No. 8 nationally in the ITA DII rankings and won nine times while playing at the No. 1 spot.
Lugon Moulin and Johnson went an astounding 13-1 overall as a pair this regular season. They were 9-0 at the No. 2 doubles position and 4-1 at the No. 3 spot.
Le Montagner was impressive for the CUI men and went 15-5 in singles. This included a perfect 5-0 mark at No. 2 and 10-5 at the No. 1 spot. Plus, 11 of his wins came in two sets.
Aleksic was equally as impressive. He posted a 13-4 regular season record in singles and combined to go 8-2 at the No. 3 spot while going 5-2 at the No. 2 position.
Both Concordia tennis teams play in the quarterfinals on Thursday. The men play first against Point Loma at 9 a.m. PT followed by the women's match against Biola at 1 p.m. PT.
