Golden Eagles Wrap Up Regular Season Play

IRVINE, Calif. - The Concordia women's water polo team wrapped up regular season play with a hard-fought battle against University of the Pacific. The Golden Eagles entered the match with an overall record of 11-19 and left their mark on the No. 20 Tigers.

Pacific broke away in the beginning of the game with three goals, but Concordia was undeterred.

Tamsyn Evezard captured the first CUI goal thanks to an assist from Tessa Tavaglione. It wasn't the only goal for Tamsyn, in fact, she led the Golden Eagles with four goals in the match and has been the leading scorer with 83 points on 58 goals. As of Saturday's match, Evezard is only a few goals away from hitting her 150 career goal milestone.

Tess Henke was the next Golden Eagle to find the back of the net, making the score CUI 2 – UOP 3. Evezard tallied two more goals for CUI, one being on a penalty and the other on even-strength. It wasn't long before Abby Mammen, key scorer from the previous match in the week, kicked into gear and added another goal to Concordia's board. By halftime, the score was CUI 5 – UOP 7.

Sofia Smith was the only Golden Eagle to score in the third period. Defensive plays from goalie Jaden Soto kept the Tigers at bay. As a freshman, Soto leads all goalkeepers with around 204 saves and 25 steals for the year.

By the fourth period, the Tigers extended the gap between CUI until the game ended. Many shot attempts were made on the goal, but CUI couldn't get past Pacific's defense.

By the end of it all, University of Pacific won the match 12-7.

Even though regular season play is over, Concordia is just getting started. The Golden Eagles are on the hunt for a win at the GCC Conference Championship on April 26! LMU is the first opponent for CUI and the big matchup starts at 4 pm in Santa Clara.
