Offense Comes Alive Against APU

AZUSA, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine baseball team played against Azusa Pacific in a non-conference match-up on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles bats came to life as they recorded 15 runs on 10 hits beating the Cougars 15-6.

Jason Rhodenbaugh started on the mound and went three innings allowing two hits and one run. Junior Scott Wood picked up his first win of the season going 2.1 innings shutting down the Cougars offense. Matthew Kaiser, Ryan O'Toole, Elliot Pigati, Kaj James, and Conor Meehan came in from the bullpen and all pitched a combined 3.2 innings.

After APU scored in the first Luke Glascoe came up to the plate in the second and smashed a solo home run to right field tallying his fourth home run of the season. Cameron Slessor joined in hitting a single to center field to bring around Haku Dudoit.

The Golden Eagles offense took off as they scored seven runs alone in the third inning. Three consecutive hits from Isaiah Walz, Michael Dixon, and Glascoe led to a run scored. Dudoit was up to the plate and placed a perfect bunt which caused him to reach on an error from the pitcher and load the bases. Catcher Owen Gott got in on the action and hit a two-RBI single to center followed by another error from a Cougars pitcher after another strategic bunt from Michael Mira. After going back to top of the batting line-up CUI scored another three to take a 10-1 lead over APU.

Shane Wallace reached on a fielder's choice in the seventh and scored Gott to extend their lead by 10. The Cougars tried coming back in the eighth with a couple home runs and to cut the deficit to five with an 11-6 score. The Golden Eagles went on to score another three with Walz being hit by pitch to bring Gott home. Sawyer Voortman came into the game and hit a two RBI single and Glascoe with an RBI single.
