SAN MARCOS, Calif. - On Wednesday afternoon, the Golden Eagles headed down to play the San Marcos Cougars.
As the season is still in the early stages, so are the Golden Eagles and their team chemistry. This game proved to be a test of strength for seeing how that team chemistry could work together in CUI's favor. The Golden Eagles had some opportunities to score early on, but ultimately, the Cougars scored first in the 29th minute, making it a 1-0 game going into the first half.
Returning from halftime, the Golden Eagles turned up the jets on the offensive attack and generally tried to be more aggressive. With 13 total shots on the goal and seven of those coming in the second half, CUI just couldn't break through the Cougars defense.
Miguel Arroyo led the team with three shots, including two that were shots on goal. Arroyo recently net the game-winning goal
in the home opener for CUI after converting a late penalty kick against The Master's.
The final score of the contest was 1-0. Sometimes, just one goal can be the difference maker in these tight matches. CUI will learn from this loss and use it as a learning curve going forward.
