LA JOLLA, Calif. - Coming off their home opener, the Concordia men's water polo team returned to La Jolla for a face-off against No. 16 UC San Diego.
The Golden Eagles were held off from scoring until the second period. With four minutes remaining, Konstantinos Koulouris found Harry Bentham who made the first CUI goal of the game.
The duo found their rhythm and scored another goal to make it 2-9 in the third.
Beating the clock, Sam Diamond scored the third Concordia goal with twelve seconds remaining in the third. Kaliq Khan's assist made the power play goal possible.
The Golden Eagles were down for most of the match, but that didn't stop Dawson Brummett, Kaliq Khan, and Kai Young from making goals of their own.
Konstantinos Koulouris came in clutch with four assists overall. The graduate student has been a key offensive leader for the Golden Eagles. Harry Bentham's hat trick was also memorable for Concordia. Defensively, Griffin Beth played all four periods and tallied seven saves against the Triton's offense.
By the game's end, Concordia contended against the Tritons, but lost the match 7-16.
The Green and the Gold returns to the Woollett Aquatics Center for another non-conference home game. The men's team will take on Mount Saint Mary's at 1:30 pm on Thursday, October 3. Come cheer on your Golden Eagles!
