IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine men's volleyball team played against Daemen University for the second time in program history. The Wildcats earned the first their first win of the season giving CUI their first loss with scores 15-25, 23-25, 25-16 and 25-27.
Clement Osahon Jr. continues to be unstoppable at the net putting down 11 kills while hitting an impressive .833. The senior added three aces and led the Golden Eagles with six blocks.
Kasey Clouet had three kills out of the middle.
Outside hitters
Makua Marumoto and
Ties Cornelissen led CUI with 12 kills each and two block assists.
Marcus Morgan was the right side hitter contributing four kills and five digs. Morgan was solid at the end line serving up a team-high of three aces along with Osahon Jr. and had the sole solo block for CUI.
Colin Marks ran the offense and had 36 assists with seven digs.
Ryan Sears reached double digits as the libero with 10 digs.
Daemen had a strong start to the match dominating in the first set. The Wildcats took another early lead in the second but tough serving from Morgan gave Green and Gold momentum tying the score at 22 a-piece but DU closed out the set by just two points. The Golden Eagles dominated in the third set holding the Wildcats to 16 points and hitting only .08. In the fourth CUI had the slight edge with a 22-20 lead but Daemen worked their way back to win the match by just two points.
The Golden Eagles play back-to-back days next week starting Friday Jan. 17 against Springfield followed by Saturday Jan. 18 against D'Youville. Both games are slated with a 7 p.m. start time.
