IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine men's volleyball team earned their first sweep of the season against Springfield on Friday. This marks their ninth win over Springfield in school history and has not dropped a match against them.
Serving was a key factor for Concordia as the team reached a record of 11 aces in three sets. Players went on long serving runs that extended their lead over their opponent in all sets.
Marcus Morgan continues to be a threat at the back line serving up five aces where four came in the first set alone. Morgan made his mark in the CUI record book with five aces in just three sets and will sit fourth just under three fellow alumni.
Sophomore
Ties Cornelissen led the offense for CUI with 10 kills while coming up big at the net with two solo blocks along with two block assists.
Gage Doble was the other outside hitter and had eight kills with two serving aces. Not only did Morgan shine at the back line but also scooped up some impressive digs from right back and had five kills.
