Irvine, Calif. - There was a party in CU arena tonight, and the CUI Men's Volleyball team swept D'youville in three sets, making it their second home sweep in a row.
The Golden Eagles breezed past the first set 25-15 with 15 total kills. The second and third set ended up being much tighter, but ultimately ended up in CUI's favor. For the green and gold, Makua Marumoto made a statement tonight with 14 kills. Following in Marumoto's footsteps is sophomore Ties Cornelissen who had 11 kills tonight, which makes it his second game in a row with double digits in kills.
There were lots of "firsts" in this match for the Golden Eagles. Redshirt Senior John Rzepniewski made his debut and first start of the year and contributed his first two kills of the season. Connor Orock also made his mark tonight and contributed his first three aces of the season which actually all happened consecutively. Finally, Justin Dowdle got to make his debut as a Golden Eagle late in the third set, where he collected his first kill.
