IRVINE, Calif. –
Izzy Navarro collected her first career double-double,
Erika Maggard scored 21 points, and freshman
Cadence Tarrant added a career-high 13 points to help Concordia top Menlo College Thursday for its first PacWest win of the year.
Navarro dropped a game-high 25 points and also racked up a career-high 10 rebounds. She scored 16 points before intermission and shot a blistering 6-for-11 from three-point land.
Maggard added 21 points and was fed multiple times by her guards in the paint for fourth quarter layups. She scored a dozen of her points in the fourth quarter and those connections helped CUI fend the Oaks late charge.
Tarrant added a career-high 13 points to go with seven rebounds and her plus/minus was far and away the best of anyone in the game at +25.
"We really followed the scouting report and we were locked in on it all week," said Tarrant. "We rebounded really well, the previous few games we let up a lot of points in the paint and I feel like we did a pretty good job on it. For me, I was just trying to get to my spot and not trying to do too much and play in my role to help the team."
After CUI built a 41-29 advantage by halftime, Menlo opened the third quarter on a 10-3 run. The Golden Eagles responded well by finishing the third quarter by making a handful of shots from downtown.
Four different Golden Eagles made a trey to stem the tide.
Sierra Clark and
Ava Dominguez each made one, along with Navarro and
Kayla Cabaccang.
Next up for the Golden Eagles is a home date with Menlo College on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day this Monday, Jan. 21 at 5 p.m. The men's game will follow the women's contest as part of a PacWest conference doubleheader.
