CUI Snatches Victory In Season Opener

IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine men's volleyball team kick off the 2025 season with a five game home stanza and started against Brandon University. The Golden Eagles snatched their first victory in an exciting five set match with scores 25-22, 27-25, 23-25, 21-25, and 15-11.
 

Christian Galoppo and Makua Marumoto led CUI with nine kills each along with eight and four digs a-piece. Galoppo served up a team high of four aces and Marumoto was right behind with three. Connor Dell started things off for the Green and Gold and finished with seven kills. Ties Cornelissen came into the game and made an immediate impact with five kills and two aces. Marcus Morgan was strong at the end line serving tough and going on runs to help CUI.

 
The middles were impressive at the net as Clement Osahon Jr. had five kills while hitting an impressive .500 and Kasey Clouet had eight kills. Osahon Jr. led the Golden Eagles with three solo blocks. Colin Marks made his debut as the setter and dished out an impressive 38 assists and had two aces, three kills, and four digs. Ryan Sears wore the libero jersey and had 10 digs.

 
The Golden Eagles took a two game jump over the Bobcats but they were not finished and managed to win the following two forcing a fifth set. CUI had a close 8-7 lead at the side switch and closed out the match with Cornelissen serving an ace on match point.

 
The Golden Eagles will play against Merrimack Wednesday Jan. 8 followed by Daemen Saturday Jan. 11 with both games slated at a 7 p.m. start time.
