MERCED, Calif. - The Concordia Golden Eagles took out some frustration on the UC Merced Bobcats on Friday evening as they dominated from start to finish with a 18-4 victory.
After not playing for over a week since losing a narrow contest with Biola, the Green and Gold responded with an impressive effort that saw 17 different student-athletes tally at least one point.
CUI actually scored five goals in each of the first three periods to build a 15-3 lead and coast the rest of the way.Â
Freshmen
Carter Clenney and
Dimitrios Koritsas each led the CUI offense with three goals apiece while
Kai Young and freshman
Levi Riegelmann each net two goals.Â
Harry Bentham made his season debut and contributed one goal and three assists. Plus, recent WWPA Offensive Player of the Week
Hugo Wouters added one goal and one helper. Plus the two Lukes (
Luke Addington and
Luc Chapman) each had multiple points to help the cause.
Pablo de Souza tallied 11 saves in three periods of work before giving way to
Derek Maddox, who also made two stops in the cage. The CUI defense did not allow UC Merced to score at all in the third period.
With the victory, CUI improved to 15-10 overall this season. With 15 wins, that means this Concordia men's water polo team has already earned the most victories in a season in the NCAA DII era (since 2015).
CUI will play again on Saturday against Fresno Pacific. That game was moved back to a 2 p.m. PT start in Fresno.
