SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine men's soccer team started PacWest Conference play on a strong note, defeating Westmont 2–0 on Thursday afternoon at Thorrington Field.
The Golden Eagles (3-3-1, 1-0 PacWest) struck early in the first half when defender Domenyk Jara scored in the 14th minute off an assist from Nathan Nava, giving CUI a 1–0 lead. Concordia controlled the tempo throughout the match, outshooting the Warriors 19–7 and generating eight corner kicks.
After a tight defensive stretch in the second half, Dylan Graham added an insurance goal in the 88th minute, finishing a setup from Bryan Maldonado to secure the win.
Goalkeeper Sebastian Marin made one save in over 80 minutes of action before Griffin Welch closed out the final nine minutes to preserve the shutout. The back line, anchored by Jara and Hugo Viramontes, limited Westmont to just one shot on goal.
CUI now shifts focus to its PacWest home opener on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 2:30 p.m. when the Golden Eagles host Dominican.
