CUI Ladies Net Fifth Straight Soccer Shutout

Havican Scores Early in Second Half To Help Golden Eagles Nab First Conference Win

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The latest victim for the Concordia University Irvine women's soccer team was the Westmont Warriors on Thursday afternoon, as the Green and Gold kept a clean sheet for the fifth straight match and walked away with an impressive victory.

Thanks to some superb defense and a clutch goal by senior Hailey Havican, CUI now sports a five-game winning streak and has not allowed a goal during its past five matches. CUI has also won four straight away from its home pitch since a 4-0 home win over Northwest Nazarene back in mid-September.

Senior goalkeeper Riley Urquiza made six saves and played the full 90 minutes to record her latest shutout. This means that Urquiza has now tied the school record held by Bekah Garvin with her 25th career individual shutout. She already held the record among CUI women's soccer goalies from the NCAA DII era, and is poised to break the program record in the coming days.

Along with a stout defense in front of her led by senior All-Conference selection Madison Hall and company, CUI now has six shutouts already this fall.

The Golden Eagles are also outscoring opponents 15-2 this season.

The CUI women's soccer squad has not allowed a goal since late in their 1-1 draw against Cal State San Marcos a few weeks ago. The current scoreless streak for CUI opponents is now at 456 minutes and 38 seconds entering Saturday.

Speaking of this weekend, the Golden Eagles will host Dominican this Saturday, Oct. 4 at 12 p.m. PT for their first home conference doubleheader of the year.  The men's soccer squads will follow with their match at 2:30 p.m. directly after the ladies.
