CUI Draws with Hawai‘i Hilo After Late Goal

HILO, Hawai'i – The Concordia University Irvine women's soccer team tied Hawai'i Hilo 1–1 on Saturday afternoon in a close PacWest matchup at Vulcan Soccer Field.

Senior midfielder Avery Munoz scored her first career goal early in the second half to put the Golden Eagles ahead. Muñoz found the net in the 49th minute, connecting on passes from Antonella Russo and Bella Barrett to give CUI the 1–0 lead.

CUI appeared to have the win secured until a late deflection changed the outcome. With just over three minutes remaining, a long shot from Hilo took an unexpected bounce off defender Sloane De Torres's back and dropped into the top-right corner of the goal, just over the reach of goalkeeper Riley Urquiza.

Urquiza finished with five saves, while the Golden Eagles controlled much of the second half and created several strong scoring chances.

CUI now sits at 9–2–4 overall and 4–1–3 in PacWest play, remaining near the top of the conference standings.
