A Sweep At The Gary Troyer Tournament

CUI Mens Water Polo goes 4-0 on the weekend

Pomona, Calif. - The CUI men's water polo team had a triumphant weekend at the Gary Troyer tournament, going a solid 4-0 on the weekend. In Saturday's games, the Golden Eagles defeated the Pomona Pitzer Sagehens as well as the Ottawa Spirit, combining for a total of 41 goals on the day! CUI ended up going 6-0 after playing six times in three days!

CUI 14 , PPU 12

CUI put together a strong all-around performance on Saturday, defeating No. 7 (Division III) Redlands 14–8 to open their doubleheader.

Balanced scoring led the way for the Golden Eagles, who saw six different players find the back of the cage. Kaliq Khan highlighted the attack with a hat trick, while Dimitrios Koritsas also netted three goals. Sam Diamond added a well-rounded effort with two goals, an assist, and three steals, and Hugo Wouters contributed a pair of goals. Kai Young, Oscar Garcia Blomback, Nicolas Fuchs, and Cade Peterson each chipped in one goal apiece to round out the scoring.

Concordia's defense was just as impactful, collecting 16 steals on the day. In goal, Pablo de Souza anchored the first three quarters with 8 saves while allowing just 3 goals, before Derek Maddox closed the game and added 2 saves.

Redlands fought to stay within reach, getting goals from eight different players, but the Bulldogs were unable to overcome Concordia's defensive pressure and quick counterattacks.

With the 14–8 win, the Golden Eagles continue to build momentum as they head into their second matchup of the day. 

CUI 27, OTT 12

The Concordia University Irvine men's water polo team delivered a powerful statement on Saturday, earning back-to-back victories to close out their home slate. The Golden Eagles opened the day with a 14–8 win over No. 7 (Division III) Redlands before storming past Ottawa Arizona in a commanding 27–12 performance.

Concordia carried that momentum from the first game into the second game, exploding for a season-high 27 goals against Ottawa Arizona. Twelve different Golden Eagles scored, led by Cade Peterson's four-goal outing. Hugo Wouters, Kai Young, and Oscar Garcia Blomback each notched three goals, while Charlie Johnson, Nicolas Fuchs, Kaliq Khan, and Canyon Johnson added two apiece. The offense was crisp, dishing out eight assists and converting 11 drawn exclusions into goals.

In the cage, the trio of de Souza, Hale Durbiano, and Derek Maddox combined for 7 saves, limiting OUAZ's chances despite standout performances from Nolan Cinquemani (6 goals) and Cash Larochelle (4 goals).

With the sweep, Concordia showcased both its depth and attacking firepower, wrapping up the day with a combined 41 goals scored across two games.
