IRVINE, Calif. — Concordia University Irvine women's basketball went down to the final second in a tight non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon, ultimately falling 61–59 to Cal Poly Pomona inside CU Arena.
The Golden Eagles opened strong, taking a 19–16 lead after the first quarter and heading into halftime tied 29–29. CUI continued to compete on both ends, holding Pomona to just seven points in the third quarter and entering the final frame within striking distance.
The fourth quarter turned into a back-and-forth battle, with multiple lead changes and clutch plays on both sides. CUI stayed right on Pomona's heels, and Hannah Vela drilled a three-pointer at the buzzer to bring the Golden Eagles within two, but the rally came just a touch too late.
Myia Collins led CUI with 12 points, while Asia Darcuiel added 13 points off the bench, knocking down three threes. Camryn Kiernan also contributed 10 points, hitting three shots from beyond the arc. Genesis Hopkins pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds, helping the Golden Eagles stay competitive on the boards.
CUI will return home for its first PacWest conference home game on Tuesday, December 3 at 5 p.m., when they host Westmont inside CU Arena.
