IRVINE, Calif. – The CUI softball team has had a strong showing at the CUI Kickoff Classic Tournament at OC Great Park, finishing Day 2 with a 3-1 overall record. The team is gaining momentum with standout performances from multiple players.
CUI 5, CSU Pueblo 1
The Golden Eagles earned a 5-1 win over CSU Pueblo in their second game of the day.The offense was led by Caitlynn Campbell, who went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI. Kayla Rodgers also had a solid outing, finishing 2-3 as well, helping drive in key runs for the team. Their performances at the plate were critical to the Eagles' ability to pull away in the later innings.
On the mound, Jayden Nishi was once again dominant, improving her record to 2-0 for the tournament. The sophomore now has 15 strikeouts in her first two appearances over 11 innings of work and has only allowed one earned run.
The Golden Eagles' strong start puts them in a good position heading into the final day of the tournament.
Tournament Schedule
The Golden Eagles' final game of the tournament is Sunday, Feb. 2 at 11:00 AM against Fort Lewis in the stadium.
