Irvine, Calif. - The Golden Eagles split the day in a doubleheader against the Yotes from San Bernardino. The green and gold were close to sweeping, but fell just one run short in the second game of the day.
Game 1 - CUI 6, CSUSB 1
The scoring started early in the first inning for the Golden Eagles, and the momentum was all green and gold for the entirety of the game. Other than a solo Yotes homerun in the sixth inning, San Bernardino did not have many base runners throughout the game all thanks to PacWest pitcher of the week Jayden Nishi. Nishi only allowed five hits in seven innings pitched and held the Yotes to one lonely run. Nishi is now 5-0 on the season and continues to impress in the circle.
Sophomore Jessica Im had a solid game at the plate going two-for-three with two singles and a walk. Freshman Kaliya Yco and senior Shelli Faulk also picked up a hit each in this game helping CUI secure the win.
Game 2 - CUI 3 , CSUSB 4
The roles were quite reversed in this game, and San Bernardino managed to scrape one run across the board in the first inning. The Yotes had the lead for the entire game, but CUI definitely chipped away at the damage and definitely gave San Bernardino a scare in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Sophomore Audrey Robles continues to be the hottest bat for the Golden Eagles, and with a single in the bottom of the third inning, she is currently on a nine-game hitting streak and has had a hit in every game this season with the exception of one game early in the CUI Kickoff Classic.
Jessica Im continued her hit parade in the second game, going three-for-four and a combined five-for-seven on the day. Kayla Rodgers also punched in three hits and always seems to find a way on base.
The Golden Eagles will next face Cal State East Bay in a doubleheader Friday February 14th beginning at 3 PM with game 2 to follow after. CLICK HERE to view the full 2025 CUI Softball Schedule.
