Home Run Party At CUI!

CUI blasts 4 home runs in conference opener

Irvine, Calif. - The bats were HOT today for the Golden Eagles in their PacWest conference opener, in which they outscored their opponent from Menlo College 21-2 on the day. CUI also played a total of nine complete innings, as both of today's doubleheader games resulted in a run-rule victory for the Green and Gold.

GM 1: CUI 11, Menlo 0

The day started off right for the Golden Eagles, and the first run came across the board early in the first inning when senior Shelby Pfeiler poked a single into left field scoring sophomore Jessica Im

Junior Gabby Villa smacked her first double of the season and scored Kayla Simpson and Kaliya Yco to make the score 3-0. Then, bombs away as Kayla Rodgers picked up her third home run of the season in the second inning and then the following inning Caitlynn Campbell also knocked her first home run in the Green and Gold.

Jessica Im, Kayla Rodgers, and Shelby Pfeiler all went two-for-three and Kayla Simpson went a perfect two-for-two.

Sophomore Jayden Nishi picked up her sixth win of the season, making her record 6-0. Nishi only allowed two hits while she faced 16 batters.

A five-run fourth inning for CUI and a collective 13 total hits made the final score 11-0 in favor of the Golden Eagles.

GM 2: CUI 10, Menlo 2

Once again, and starting to follow a similar pattern, CUI scored in the first inning and Kayla Rodgers smacked her second home run of the day putting the Golden Eagles on the board. Rodgers went a collective four-for-five on the day and had six total RBI.

Kaliya Yco smacked her second career homerun over the leftfield line in the third inning, which puts CUI's home run count at four on the day. Yco also went two-for-three with 2 RBI.

Audrey Robles also continues her hitting streak which has now been 11 consecutive games when she picked up a single in the third inning.

On the Defensive side, Kacie Gossett got the start in the circle which was also her first career start! Gossett had a career high of five strikeouts in four innings pitched.
