The Golden Eagles SOAR Over The Eagles

IRVINE, Calif. - The PacWest rival Eagles from Biola University were in town to face off against the Golden Eagles on Wednesday night.

Right off the jump ball, Concordia looked highly aggressive with driving layups and made three-point jump shots that helped them get the lead to seven points in the first few minutes of the game. Heading into the second quarter, the Golden Eagles held a five-point lead, 16-11.

In the second quarter, the Golden Eagles put on the handcuffs against the Biola offense, and only allowed eight total points in the period. Fueled by their defense, the Golden Eagles went on an aggressive scoring run to end the second quarter, only allowing two points from the Eagles in the last 4 minutes of play while going up by 12 points into the half with a score of 31-19.

Returning from the half, the Golden Eagles didn't lose a beat from the first half. CUI's defense kept the Eagles on their feet and even increased their halftime lead by almost 20 points heading into the fourth quarter with a score of 48-30.

To close out the game, the Golden Eagles stuck to what they were doing throughout the game and let their defense do the talking. Coming out with a massive win over their PacWest rival, the Golden Eagles eventually won with a final score of 56-49.

Izzy Navarros finished with 19 points to lead the way and freshman Cadence Tarrant added 13. Senior Erika Maggard had a solid game with eight points and eight rebounds, while Maggie Teven contributed seven points as the high scorer off the bench.

The next game for the Golden Eagles is against the Point Loma Sea Lions this Saturday, at 5:45 PM.
