Box Score IRVINE, Calif. - A magical start to the season continued for the undefeated Concordia University Irvine men's tennis team on Wednesday with an impressive 5-2 road win over Point Loma.
The Golden Eagles claimed the doubles point to set the tone and then scooped up victories at No. 4 and No. 5 singles.
Upperclassmen
Spencer Cinco cemented the win down in San Diego with a 7-6, 6-4 decision for the clinch.
CUI is now 5-0 in regular season matches to open the year.
Cinco &
Adam Kartzinel won at No. 2 doubles about ten minutes after
Felix Veyhle and
Max Mueller won at the top spot.Â
Then
Max Renz locked in a point with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the five spot, followed shortly by recently named PacWest Player of the Week
Adam Large emerging with identical 6-4, 6-4 marks in his two sets.
That made the score 3-1 in favor of CUI with the Golden Eagles needing just one more point to snag the win.Â
Cinco narrowly won his first set before closing the door 6-4 in the second.
Veyhle also fought back to win in three sets to complete the scoring after dropping his opening set at No. 2 singles.
Next up for the Golden Eagles is a Saturday date at home against nationally-ranked Azusa Pacific. The No. 11 Cougars visit Irvine at 1 p.m.Â
