CUI Digs Deep in Second Half

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers gave the Golden Eagles a run for their money on Friday evening, but Concordia made an impressive comeback in the third period.

Over the course of the game, six Golden Eagles stepped up to the challenge and found a way to close the gap between Pacific. It wasn't until after halftime that things started to heat up for women's water polo.

The Golden Eagles went from a 3-9 deficit at the half, to scoring six crucial goals, then another five on top of that. Outstanding performances from Hannah Edwards, Kennedy Brubaker, Sierrah Ferguson, Emeline Smiley, and Anna Tyukasz gave Concordia a fighting chance against the Tiger's offensive onslaught.

Cedar City-native Hannah Edwards offensively led Concordia with five goals against the Tigers. Her consistent efforts in the water made a remarkable impact for the Golden Eagles. She had one in the second, two in the third, and two more in the final period. With each goal, more and more opportunities started unveiling themselves and Concordia gradually found its rhythm.

Lead CUI scorer Anna Tyukasz collected her second hat trick of the season and Sierrah Ferguson accomplished her first as a Golden Eagle. Ferguson also scored the first goal for CUI off an impressive assist from Allyson Corbett. The junior utility went on to have six assists over the course of the match, officially hitting a season high.

The Tigers did not make it easy for Concordia's defensive line. In the cage, sophomore goalie Jaden Soto held her own against Pacific with 13 saves and a steal.

Concordia was able to make a final stand in the fourth, but the Tiger's initial lead helped them capture the win. The final score was CUI 14 – Pacific 20.

NEXT UP: The Golden Eagles will face No. 7 Fresno State on Saturday, Feb. 22 at noon. The women's water polo team is on the hunt for their next win.
