NEW ORLEANS, LA. – The CUI beach volleyball team finished the Green Wave Invitational with an impressive 3-1 record after competing for two days across the country to open the season. The tournament was hosted by Tulane.
CUI 3, UAB 2
Concordia put up a battle against University of Alabama-Birmingham ultimately coming out with the win over the Blazers. The Golden Eagles were able to secure three of the six wins in a sweep of two sets.
In the second slot
Korah Nordin and
Ashley Rossi lost the first set but then came back to win the next two sets over the Blazers. The third slot was an impressive battle between the pairs as
Olivia Medina and
Eva Prewitt went the distance in the second set going all the way to 32 points to win by two.
The sixth pair was another tough match as the Blazers made some changes to their play after losing the first set but the Golden Eagles were able to come back in the third and take control reaching 15 points first.

Kelia Giusta and
Gabrielle Reinking put the pressure on Tulane by winning the first game of the match in straight sets. Nordin and Rossi fell just short winning the first set but dropping the next two to tie the game at one a-piece.
Lexi Godbey and
Jordan Vander Veen were in the fifth slot and were looking to tie the game as the Green Wave took a 2-1 lead over the Golden Eagles with the third slot dropping in two sets. Godbey and Vander Veen lost the first set but came back on the court to win by a close 21-19 forcing a third set. Tulane was able to secure the win capturing the team win by a close 3-2.
Kelissa Lemoine and
Sara Ostojic continue in the first slot picking up their win in another tough match of three sets.

CUI was coming off two victories on the first day of the tourney on Friday.

The Golden Eagles will next compete in the Battle of LA Tournament starting Friday, Feb. 28. The Golden Eagles will face off against USC at 10 a.m. and Pepperdine at 2 p.m. Saturday Mar. 1 and then CUI will conclude the tournament at LMU against LMU and Cal Poly.
