ATHERTON, Calif. - The Golden Eagles competed in their last road game of the year against the Menlo College Oaks this past Saturday.
Kayla Cabaccang finished with a career-high 13 points and a personal best three triples. Sophomore
Izzy Navarro and freshman
Cadence Tarrant combined for 17 points to help the cause.
As the first half commenced, the Golden Eagles got right into it with
Kayla Cabaccang hitting a three and scoring a jumper to go on a 5-0 run at the beginning of the first quarter.
Despite Cabaccang providing some good energy for the Golden Eagles, they saw themselves down entering the second quarter. After the two-minute break, CUI's coaching staff made some slight changes with significant outcomes.
Switching to a more aggressive defense, the Golden Eagles had put a run together at the end of the second quarter to keep the Oaks within a two-point game going into halftime.
Jumping to the fourth quarter, the Golden Eagles found themselves down by more than 12 points at the beginning of the quarter. Despite them being down by double-digits, CUI kept on clawing back into the game from made layups off of
Justyce Harris' steals to yet another three-point shot from Cabaccang to cut the game within one point in the last 30 seconds of the game.
Making their best effort to pull off a miraculous comeback, the Golden Eagles had a chance to tie but the Oaks ended up escaping in a classic PacWest competitive battle, 54-53.
