SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Concordia University Irvine men's lacrosse team continued its three-game road trip down in Florida on Tuesday against No. 16 Saint Leo.
After a defensive first half, both teams picked up the scoring in the third and fourth periods. Three different Golden Eagles found the back of the net twice, but the Lions were able to pull away and secure a 12-6 victory.
15 of the game's 18 goals were scored after intermission.
Jeremy Barnes got CUI on the board after Saint Leo scored the first seven goals of the contest. Barnes then found
Brody MacDonald with under ten seconds remaining in the third period for CUI's second goal of the night.
MacDonald found the back of the net again to tally his third multi-goal effort of the season. He leads CUI with nine total goals on the campaign through four outings.
Max Texter scored a pair of goals in the fourth period to further trim the deficit and Barnes added his second goal in the final minute of regulation. But Saint Leo had built up a cushion large enough to withstand that late scoring barrage by the Golden Eagles.
Face-off specialist
Drew Klingman won 50 percent of his draws (8 of his 16 opportunities in the X).
Edward McCann IV led Concordia with five ground balls and was also credited with a caused turnover.
Joseph Switzer added a career-high four ground balls and
Connor Kuhl and Klingman each scooped up three more.
