700 Wins for Coach Crystal

Golden Eagles Sweep Western Oregon in Doubleheader

IRVINE, Calif. – The CUI softball team extended their hot start to the season with a dominant doubleheader sweep of Western Oregon on Wednesday, winning 10-2 in the first game and 4-3 in the second. The Golden Eagles improved to 8-1, and head coach Crystal Rosenthal reached a career milestone, earning her 700th win as CUI's head coach.

Game 1 – CUI 10, Western Oregon 2

The Golden Eagles took control early in game one, delivering an offensive explosion to secure a 10-2 victory. Bella Calvo, who is now a perfect 3-0 on the season, delivered another strong performance in the circle, allowing just two runs over six innings.

At the plate, the Golden Eagles were led by Kayla Rodgers, who went 2 for 4 with a home run, and three RBIs. Audrey Robles also had a perfect day at the plate, going 3 for 3 with two RBIs, while Shelli Faulk added a 2 for 3 effort with two RBIs.

The day was extra special for head coach Crystal Rosenthal, who earned her 700th career win. Rosenthal's leadership has been key to the program's many successful seasons, and the Golden Eagles' performance in this game was a fitting celebration of that achievement.

Game 2 – CUI 4, Western Oregon 3

The Golden Eagles didn't slow down in the second game, grinding out a 4-3 victory in a hard-fought contest. Jayden Nishi, who is 4-0, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five and walking one. She threw a complete game, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five batters and walking one.

Rodgers stayed hot, going 3 for 3 and scoring twice. Audrey Robles also had another strong outing, going 2 for 4 with three RBIs, including the game-winning run-producing hit. Kaliya Yco chipped in with one RBI, and Shelby Pfeiler went 1-for-1, scoring once. Kaliya Yco drove in one run, and Shelby Pfeiler went 1 for 1, scoring once to help secure the win.

Looking Ahead

The Golden Eagles will look to extend their winning streak when they host Cal State San Bernardino for a doubleheader next Tuesday, February 11, at 3:00 and 5:00 PM.

With the sweep of Western Oregon and the 700th career win for Coach Rosenthal, the CUI softball team continues to show they are ready for a standout season.
